Join The Arctic Train for a memorable evening journey through the spectacular mountain landscape along the Ofoten Railway. Travelling from Narvik to Bjørnfjell, we pass through dramatic Arctic scenery with stops at the historic stations of Rombak and Katterat along the way. If weather conditions permit, you may experience the mountains bathed in the golden light of the midnight sun.
At both Rombak and Katterat, you will have the opportunity to step off the train, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and capture stunning photographs of the dramatic Arctic scenery before continuing deeper into the mountains.
Upon arrival at Bjørnfjell Station, we take a short walk to Bjørnfjell Chapel, a unique mountain chapel with a remarkable history. Consecrated in 1952 after years of voluntary community work, the chapel stands peacefully surrounded by mountains, open landscapes, and the endless light of the Arctic summer night.
At the chapel, guests gather around an open fire and are served warm reindeer broth while enjoying the tranquillity of the surroundings. Drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase.
Inside the chapel, you will experience “Narvik by Light” - an atmospheric photo and video presentation created by nature photographer Michael Ulriksen. Through images, film, and music, you will journey through the Arctic seasons, from the magical blue hour and dancing Northern Lights of winter to the awakening of spring and the long, light-filled days of summer.
Outside the chapel, an open-air photography exhibition showcases large nature photographs integrated into the landscape, highlighting the beauty of the Arctic summer light.
This unique excursion combines some of Northern Norway’s most memorable experiences - breathtaking scenery, local history, Arctic culture, and, when conditions are right, the magical golden glow of the midnight sun – into an evening you will never forget.
