Your adventure begins at Narvik Railway Station, where you board The Arctic Train for a spectacular journey along the famous Ofoten Railway.

As the train climbs through the mountains, you'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Rombak Fjord. Along the way, an onboard audio guide shares fascinating stories about the railway's history, the construction of the line, and the surrounding nature.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee from our self-service coffee machine as you take in one of Norway's most scenic railway journeys before arriving at Katterat, the starting point of your hike along the historic Rallar Road.

The trail from Katterat to Rombaksbotn follows the historic Rallarvegen, used by navvies during the Ofoten Railway construction. Starting at Katterat station, the route descends through a rugged mountain landscape featuring steep cliffs and rushing waterfalls. Hikers encounter remains of the temporary town at the fjord's edge that once housed thousands of workers. The terrain consists mainly of gravel and rock, becoming slippery when wet. Sturdy footwear and windproof clothing are recommended for the exposed arctic conditions. The hike from Katterat to Rombaksbotn is 6,5 km (4 miles) long and takes approximately 2 - 2,5 hours. However, you'll have 5,5 hours from the time you leave the train until boarding the boat, giving you plenty of time to take breaks along the way and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Before boarding the train in Narvik, you'll have the opportunity to purchase food and drinks at the café inside Narvik Railway Station. As there are no cafés or shops along the route after departure, we recommend bringing a packed lunch and plenty of water to enjoy during the hike.

The boat departs at 18:00 from the dock at Rombaksbotn. The boat ride also passes the shipwreck Georg Thiele from WW2, with the possibility of a brief stop to take pictures of the wreck. The boat trip from Rombaksbotn to Sildvik is a spectacular experience, with steep mountains plunging into the fjord with beautiful waterfalls that finds its way down to Rombaksfjord. The boat trip takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on weather conditions.

Provided that weather conditions and passenger numbers are suitable, the boat will operate all the way from Rombaksbotn to Narvik, eliminating the need to transfer to a bus in Sildvik. Boat trip takes about 10-15 minutes, Buss transport takes about 15-20 minutes
